About the head instructor - Kenka combat academy

For over 40 years, I’ve dedicated my life to martial arts, combat sports, and the study of real‑world violence. With more than 25 years of teaching and coaching experience — and over two decades competing — I bring a depth of knowledge shaped by thousands of hours on the mats, in the ring, and in real‑world environments where consequences are immediate.

A background built on real world understanding

Alongside my martial arts journey, I’ve worked extensively as a conflict management trainer, teaching people how to recognise, manage, and respond to aggression. This includes:

  • Understanding behavioural patterns in conflict
  • Identifying pre‑violence cues
  • Managing fear and adrenaline
  • Communicating under pressure
  • De‑escalating volatile situations

I’ve also spent years working in the private security sector, where the consequences of violence are immediate and unforgiving. These experiences shaped my belief that training must be:

  • Purposeful
  • Pressure‑tested
  • Honest
  • Adaptable
  • Based on principles, not fantasy

This blend of martial arts knowledge, behavioural understanding, and real‑world experience forms the foundation of the training ethos at Kenka Combat Academy.

A Stand Against Declining Industry Standards

As a former SIA trainer and conflict management instructor, I’ve seen how watered‑down training creates false confidence. Too many systems teach techniques without context, pressure, or accountability.

At Kenka Combat Academy, we do the opposite.

We focus on:

  • Realistic, principle‑driven training
  • Progressive resistance
  • Situational understanding
  • Honest feedback
  • Skills that hold up under pressure

We coach students for competition, but that’s only a small part of what we do. Most of our students are everyday people who want:

  • Practical self‑defence skills
  • Greater confidence
  • Improved fitness and resilience
  • The ability to protect themselves and their families

We hope our students never face violence — but if they do, they’ll be ready.

Hard Training that builds real confidence

At Kenka Combat Academy, we train hard — not for ego, not for toughness, but because pressure creates confidence.

When you train honestly:

  • You learn what your body can do
  • You learn how to stay calm under stress
  • You learn how to move, think, and react with purpose
  • You build resilience, discipline, and self‑belief

Confidence doesn’t come from theory.
It comes from doing the work, pushing your limits, and discovering that you’re capable of far more than you thought.

Equal Standards for Every Student

Every student, regardless of age, background, or experience, receives the same high‑quality training. There are no shortcuts, no diluted versions, and no “easy” paths.

Real self‑defence requires:

  • Consistency
  • Effort
  • Pressure
  • Honesty
  • Discipline

We train every student to a standard that reflects that.

Kenka Combat Academy exists to prepare people for the real world — not for fantasy scenarios. Our training is built on experience, pressure, and principles that work when it matters most.
